Arda River
by Boris Pophristov
My recent intimate landscape in medium format.
This is Arda river in Eastern Rhodope Mountain, Bulgaria. The location is near the foundations of the Devil’s Bridge - an ancient medieval bridge which rises between the steep hills above the river banks. It's very popular among Bulgarian tourists and photographers. This place has been photographed thousands of times by hundreds of photographers and it was hard for me to be original. Then my attention was caught by the ice formations on the river rocks. They created their own small world of shapes and the interaction with water was amazing. In contrast to the deep blue tones there were those subtle golden reflections of the sunlit hills that perfectly completed the scene.
Shot on Provia 100F with Mamiya RB67 PRO SD camera and Sekor C 50mm lens. f/22 for DOF and slow shutter speed.
I recommend viewing the larger version.

3 commentsI think the upper right half is outstanding, but IMO the balance is off since the lower left corner does not have the aesthetic appeal that the top portion has. I think the diaganol comp is a good idea here, so it may have been tough to compose this without including the bottom part, but hey--that's why composition isnt easy!
