Barn Owl (resting)

This barn owl was one of three I was watching, this one decided to take a rest, there was one without a ring and would have loved that one to land but I have to be happy with this full frame shot so decided I am not bothered about the ring.Forgot to say just cloned out a couple of dark bands of dark earth and a bit of pooh.

Canon 1DMK4, Canon 500f4L + 1.4 convertor, ISO 100, f6.3, 1/1000

Nice post and photo who ever it belongs to... Nice capture and composition. Glad you have a nice shot of the owl and pleased to see it in full frame. I particularly like the feather detail being shown in the wing. As others have said the catch light doesn't look right.

Have realised what I have done didn t unsharpen from the larger image when I resized to 720 and sharpened it again and it oversharpened the eye, this one I think looks better, thats trying to process while having a drink of wine lol, cloning may look different in this one have redone this image just to show the mistake about the resizing.

Sticking with image critique, I really like the bird's relaxed pose and the slightly off-centre composition. The eye-highlight looks fine in the large version and it is possibly a facet of compression in the smaller image? Overall the light conditions add to the image.

On a personal note, I'm not a fan of rings in the shot unless it is to illustrate a point (breed and release, bird research, etc) but that is just me.

Congrats on your continued success with owls, Karen.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Karen
I think the owl is smashing - spot on (except for the ring   -sorry I,m an anti !) but there's something about the perch that doesn't feel right to me. No big deal but is the ivy actually growing ?
Cheers

Thanks John, the post was been put in by Nigel a while ago, so the ivy is still alive in parts and I know it was there in January so you would have thought it would be all dead so not sure wether it roots itself in the ground, I have bumped into him several times since I have been here and he has been trying for the shot, I didn t even expect anything to land on it to be honest but beggars can t be choosers thats what I say.

Don t mind you querying Jules would love to be doing what you are doing I can see you putting the hours in, but sadly I don t have the time and probably won t visit here till next year, I admire your patience and the work you put in getting your images I would love to do it.

Well done.
