Winter Farm Field

This is a farm field in Lancaster County PA. I took this shot about 9:00 am on a cold frosty morning. I like it because of the flat lighting and the delicacy of the grasses coming up through the snow. All comments will be greatly appreciated.
1/100th sec f13 - about 2 1/2 stops overexposure according to camera meter.
focal length was 48 mm

Vince, welcome!
I like this a lot. The silhouette of the tree against the snow really conveys a feeling of cold and "bleak." I also like the touches of color in the grasses, and the lines of the snow.
My only suggestion would be to level the horizon.
looking forward to more of your images!

As Sandy said about the trees and grasses. I also like the distant trees as they add some interest to that part of the shot. In looking at the horizon, it would appear to be hilly country and there is no level to go to. IMHO.

Welcome to NPN, Vince. I like this very much. The tree, fence line, creek and grasses all work very well here. You captured a nice mood and feel. I also like your composition. Everything looks good here to me! Very well done, Vince.

This is very pleasing, nice composition, great light, its a bit soft and I really like that. I dont find it forbidding or cold, at all. The emergent vegetation out of the snow, its not grasses, (I dont know what it is...:), is very nice. I would have liked to see more technical details in your post though, just so I can learn from you.

Vince,

Welcome to NPN! I think this is a wonderful image. The light is of course diffused which I think is creating a delicate look to this cold, rural scene. this even has nice layers with foreground, mid ground with tree and fence line as well as the faint tree line in the background providing another layer - or I guess I should say good depth here.

Excellent, thanks for posting. Looking forward to more images and your participation.

Thank you very much to all who commented, for your encouragement and for such a warm welcome to NPN.
I added exposure details. I meant to include them, but just overlooked it last night.

I can feel the cold. The mood is presented very well here. It almost looks like a painting.

Hi Vince :wavey: Welcome to NPN and the M&N Gallery. I really like the stark beauty of your first post here! The tree (almost) silhouette against the snowy scene is gorgeous and effective. The delicate grasses and fence posts only add to the subtle beauty of the scene. The distant trees on the horizon are noticeable icing on the cake. Beautiful first post..... just keep'm coming.

To get the most out of your NPN experience, be sure to comment on other images. It is the best way to get more feed back on your work. Again, welcome and enjoy!
