Another photo from our spring Ecuador trip. We found this beautiful bird while cruising a mountain road one afternoon.

Canon 40D, 600mm @ f5.6, 1/25, ISO 800, manual spot meter, tripod, mirror lift-up and electronic shutter release, some noise reduction

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated

Ken - spotted this chap immediately, having seen the lovely 'blue crowned' variety in Costa Rica just over a year ago - little typo though cos you've missed the T out of 'motmot'! ;-) Anyway, lovely capture and thanks for posting.

Well done. The detail on the subject is full and fine. The OOF tree bole is a bit competitive, but not overly so. :toast:

Very clean capture, Ken. A great view of the tail feathers especially, which they break off when nesting. The tree's a bit distracting, but you definitely have some fine detail here.

Wow! This is a really striking image! The quality of light makes the colours look incredible. The catchlight is so good you can see the roundness of his eye! The sharpness of the bird against the beautiful, smooth background makes this image so strong.

I have to say this guy has a wild-looking tail!

This is a beautiful bird Ken and you have captured it very well. Very nice detail, especially considering the techs. Wow that is a slow shutter speed for a 600.

What an absolute beauty of a shot Ken, extremely well done :^) Everything from the diagonal line, to background, the pose, and of course the exquisite detail you've captured in the subject, I like this a lot!

I'd be real hard put to make a choice between having only half the opportunities you've had with such beautiful subjects in Ecuador or having only half the skill you apparently have as a photographer - LOL ;^)

Veyr much looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful images :^)

Kind regards,

Ashley

Nifty bird and you have captured it very well. Amazing at that slow shutter speed. The colors are so rich. The eye stands out well from the black mask. Nicely placed in the frame too. Would love to see one of these some day.
