Shy Albatross

My last image of a Shy Albatross was a bit distant so here's a closer one. Unfortunately the lovely early morning light didn't last and it became quite dull. I tried a bit of fill flash. Off Eden NSW.

Canon 7D, EF 70-200 f/4 IS + 1.4x @ 141mm, 580EX flash in high speed sync mode + flash extender, ISO 1600, f/6.3, 1/4000, ec +2/3, cropped for composition: 48% of full frame. Neat Image noise reduction applied.

Excellent, Simon. I'm always amazed to see your albatross photos with land in the background. The ones I've seen have been miles from shore. Lovely work on the whites and the right angle to shot the delicate wing lines.

I really like this composition Simon. The roughish sea is very effective as a backdrop. The flash has worked very well and detail is clearly visible in the whites. I wouldn't dare use an iso of 1600 with my 7D because of graininess but the use of NR has helped here. Graham

Sweet and dramatic photo Simon  I like the diagonal wing position through the frame, great use of fill flash too.

Very nice image, seems to be with you on the boat. Excellent use of flash, which makes the subject stand out .

The bird just pops out of the background-you've done a great job of isolating him from the background. I like the comp here too.

Good job. You got just enough of the water in focus, along with the bird, to make it the perfect bg. Nicely done

Wonderful flight shot :toast: I'd like to see how it looked with just a bit more room in front (left).
