Rocky Sunset

Inverness Beach Sunset, Nova Scotia. October 2010.

I am still trying to get used to my new computer - Lenovo W701ds workstation laptop with wide gamut monitor. Everything looks great in PS CS5 but not on the web (IE8). Switched to Firefox 3.6 which is a lot better but still not 100%. Spent the day reviewing web images on various computers around the house. Test images I posted on another site looked OK on all monitors (including my husband's Apple MacBook Pro and our iPhones) but not 100% on my new laptop which is calibrated (HueyPro and checked with my Xrite i1Disply 2. I read a few threads on NPN, one by Tony Kuyper. Also saw something by Ian Cameron on his website about web browsers. So I know there may be some issues with full gamut / AdobeRGB monitors and viewing web images.

I know I am not there yet and have been obsessed all weekend trying to solve this. I will probably post something on the Digital Imaging Forum shortly.

Anyway, thanks for looking. Comments and critiques welcome especially those that help to resolve my color management issue. I realize this may look OK to some since I did embed original color profile but no consolation.

The larger version really sings! Real pretty sunrise (?) nicely accentuated by the graceful sunstar (..and that lens surely produces some lovely sunstars!). I especially like how the rocks in the foreground anchor the scene so well. You might consider losing the bright feather near the lower right corner.
I'm really not seeing anything of concern re: colors and/or brightness issues (which is usually the case with laptop monitors).

Lovely shot! I think you have it worked out pretty well. I don't see any issues either. My lens makes crumby sunstars!

Being you're so intimate with this area, it doesn't surprise me that you captured this well crafted image of Inverness Beach. It very much has your signature to it. Not sure if it is new computer related, but the brightest portions of the sky near the horizon seem to lack density on my CRT viewed with Firefox. I think a little more density added to that region would tie this all together quite nicely. Nice work!

Superb image, Eva, of your beach and with your remarkable talented and creative stamp on it. Everything looks great from this end as far as color management goes using Safari on a calibrated Mac. The large image is fantastic.

I'm on IE? here at work and this looks great. Also looked great from home (IE8). Beautiful color in the clouds and I love all the detail in the FG. Sweet shot Eva.

Eva, what I appreciate most is the natural look of your image, it makes me feel like standing on this shore admiring the scene! I like how you show the tangible details of sand, stones and water especially in the foreground.

I think this image is lovely. I can see subtle shadows on the shore so the black point is good and you've got good colors in the sky with only the area immediately around the sun washed out, so the white point looks good also. I don't see any way to keep the foreground open without losing the sun unless you do multiple shots or possibly a graduated ND. In spite of all the pain with getting color calibrations working on a new computer, it looks like you're there.
