Brown Falcon

I applaud the use of treated pine for fence posts but unfortunately they are nowhere near as photogenic as the old hardwood posts. There were a largish group of these feeding on abundant crickets near a nearby swamp. They usually flush as soon as the car stops but this one remained long enough for a few shots.

ISO 320 f8 1/800 beanbag on car window; heavy overcast and facing into whatever sunlight there was. Cropped from horizontal.

cheers
Rob

A fine looking falcon Rob. You caught an excellent head turn, IQ looks good, I like the even light on the bird and the background appeals to me. If this were mine I might consider cropping from the bottom to eliminate the bottom wire and make the bird less centered vertically but excellent as presented.

Not the greatest perch, as noted, but a beautiful photo of the falcon. Nice head turn and the bg is perfect.

An impressive falcon. Once again: nice understated harmonic colors. Very nice.

I think that you handled a difficult lighting situation extremely well, Rob. We see plenty of detail and even a catchlight in the bird's eye. The post is o.k. by me but I'd prefer a two layer rather than a multi-layer bg....a redeeming feature is that the layers are nicely defocused on this one. :toast:

Very pleasing image Rob! Love the subtle colors and the stare back at the viewer. I know the post is not straight up and down, but because the wires are angled, it feels like this needs just the slightest CW turn...but might be my crooked eyes

Rob,
Terrific detail in thi image. Perfect head turn as if he's waiting for you to take the shot before he flys off. Love the lighting.

What a stunning bird, looks very conservative in brown. Beautiful detail. I admit that I would much prefer a non man-made perch, but alas we take what we get.

Very stately pose and photo, Rob. Love everything about it, and I don't mind the fence as that is what we see here much of the time.

Nicely captured Rob, I like the alert pose with good head turn. These posts seem to be the norm these days for fencing but I'm use to them now and they don't bother me. Detail in the bird is superb and I like the subtle coloured distant background. Graham

Excellent shot, I like the look from this falcon and this seems to me to be a very large falcon. The layered background compliments the image and the detail looks very good on the larger version, well done.
