Impossible Landscape #4

Hello folks...

Haven't really posted or commented much this year... the non-photo world intrudes. This is the 4th in a series of composite landscapes I've been working on. This is a Florida pier (Jacksonville Beach, FL) and a Tennessee sky. The sky was flipped, put in an overlay blend-space on a separate layer and dropped below the pier. An extensive mask was then applied to that layer to remove the "reflection" from the sand. The original sky was deep etched from the base image. Highlights on the pier were exposure-boosted and shadow values were increased. I've posted a larger image to show detail and have posted the original image below in a separate post. Your comments and critiques are always welcome.

night and day difference, Marc, you really added a lot of punch to the original. I like the perspective you have looking through the pier.

Lovely graphic image. After seeing the original, I must complement you on your vision.

Marc, you certainly have a knack for taking an ordinary image and making it extraordinary (sometimes even extraterrestrial)! Stunning image here. I love the colors.

Outstanding work in the computer. You've really made something out of what appears to be a photo with a lack of information in both the highlights and shadows. The square crop really adds a more dramatic dimension. Pretty amazing transformation. Thanks for sharing the steps.

Marc a beautiful composite. Thanks for sharing how you created the image. The square comp works well and the visual impact is very dynamic. :toast:

Well done Marc - Certainly would have fooled me if you had not mentioned what you did. Excellent work!

Good job with the processing of this one...when I glanced at the thumbnail I first thought "picnic table." The treatment of the reflection on the sand is very well done, and flipping the sky worked. My one small nit would be in the horizon line, or more specifically on the LH side "under the pier"...if it was treated the same as the RH side it would add to the illusion of the perspective.

Amzing how you saw and developed your vision from that nondescript original!
Kudos on the excellent EP!

Neat! I really like what you did to the pier! Great subject, and nice treatment. Two suggestions: i agree with Ron's critique of the horizon--gets a bit confused there. Also, unless youre attatched to them i think id zap the red bands and make them the same color as the rest of the pier--i find the red a tad distracting.

This is stunning, Marc! All of the involved post-processing paid
rich dividends.
