A Tragic Story

This young beautiful barred owl was quietly and simply just living its life, but that was about to soon change forever. A woman reported seeing a group of college students approach the owl and without warning, kicked a soccer ball right at the owl knocking it down from its perch. The impact of this hitting an owl weighing less than a half pound would be something like a human getting hit with a wrecking ball. The students took off in haste and tragically the owl died soon after from severe trauma.
This never should have happened to such an amazing animal. Why is it that some humans show such complete disrespect for the life of other creatures?
That was indeed a sad day. After the incident it was reported that the adult barred owls were vocalizing excessively for days.

Thanks kindly for viewing and your comments.

I just don't know what to say, Darren.
The reason why somebody had the privilege of encountering such a wonderful creature and just had to kill it is obscure to me.
It's a sad and stupid way of building up one's self: just because you meet me you have to die… What kind of idiot could be happy of such an absurdity?
Your portrait is a nice testimony of a wonderful creature. What a pity it is also a memorial… :frown:

Some people are just plain mean.
Very nice depiction of this gentle creature.

Darren,
I often find myself speechless when it comes to the things some humans can do. These are the same types of people that will likely wind up in jail for some heinous act. When you can be cruel to an animal you can cruel to anything. A very sad story Darren. Thanks for sharing.

A sad story indeed. It's too bad many people do actions without thinking about the consequences.

Hi Darren,

A beautiful image with all the more emotional pull by way of the extremely sad storyline. Another example why for most of my life I've had a much greater love for all creatures of the animal kingdom than I have for mankind.

Kind regards,

Ashley

Beautiful image and very sad story.
What people do sometimes to animals and other humans is just incomprehensible.
I hope this was written up in the newspaper, so hopefully the students had to learn and face what they had done.
The grieving parents must have been heartwrenching to hear.

There was just a story on the news about an owl mascot that got kicked and died on a soccer field...is this what you're talking about? Or this owl? Either way, nice photo of this youngster. Sharon

This sad story moved me to tears. I just can not for the life of me understand why humans are so cruel.
I have seen people purposely try to run over squirrels and I have all I can do to not run over them.
Beautiful picture, unbelievably sad story
