Such beautiful birds from up close. And love their call in the forest.

Hi Edwin,
I am probably going to buck the trend a little here, this image isn't quite working for me, I think mainly the straight on head, I feel that this view of a bird rarely works well, for me (personally) I would like a bit of a head turn. Can't make my mind up about the perch.... it probably isn't, but it has a set up look to it....

I'm afraid I'm with Phil on this one as I don't feel the head on shot really works on most birds.

I particularly like how well the bird stands out from it's green surroundings. I also feel that head-on shots often don't work, but here however, I think it does work, mainly because both eyes are clearly visible. I guess eye contact is something more often seen in mammal photos but I like the fact that this one is a little different to the side-on view most often seen with bird portraits.

Hi Edwin
A superb clean shot of a Bullfinch, nicely thought out in only Edwin Kats style.

I think the bullfinch does stand out really well against the green think I would prefer a head turn but still a nice shot, I kind of agree with Phil about the perch though, I think the branch with the lichen on looks a bit out of place with the other tree

Another girl bird Edwin? :) Agree a turned head would be nice but nothing wrong with being different ;)

The individual elements in this image are all superb - the lichen, the background, the bush and the bird's foliage. It isn't coming together for me though, I think for the reasons the others have mentioned.
