Lodge in White

On a recent trip to the mountains we were caught in a massive dump of snow while visiting Emerald Lake in BC. In all my years I have not seen a dump of snow such as this. A few days before the lodge was snowed in for days...nobody in or out. What a place to get caught in.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and have a look.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Mark: Very nice scene. I like the lines leading me through the image, and the cabin adds a lot to the image. I also like the tree on the far left that is leaning. The problem for me with the image is that it is underexposed. all of the snow is grey. Looks like it was still grey and overcast, but the snow still looks far to dark. I'm guessing that a levels adjustment layer will show that the whitest part of this image is somewhere in the 190's.

Your composition works well on carrying the viewer into the scene. The snow does appear underexposed. I usually overexpose +1 to +2 stops in camera depending on conditions. You can also adjust exposure during RAW file processing. Hope that helps. Looks like a wonderful place to be snow bound.

Thanks for the comments i'm still fairly "green" when it comes to post processing other than a little contrast saturation and sharpening. I did all my adjustments on the JPG however I do have both JPG and RAW files. I've been hesitant to work on the RAW files only thru lack of and knowledge regarding how to make those changes. I guess its time to look at the RAW file and see how that all works. Thanks again.

Jump into that RAW file via NX2- I think Nikon has a free 30 day trial for the software. Links for tutorials too.

I really like this. It's just so inviting. I guess it could be a little lighter, but I like it just like it is. I really like the "frosting" look of the heavy snow on the roof and the posts out front. Lovely comp and good detail.
