Hi Robert,

It always helps to indicate where a photo was taken when asking for help with ID as it helps to narrow down which species are not usually present in that area. Also when requesting ID posting in the bird discussion forum allows you to post more than one view of the bird. Do you have any with the chest of this sparrow? My guess on this, and I am not strong on sparrow ID, would be a song sparrow, but there are other members here who are stronger at ID'ing sparrows.

I like the simple background and the neat over the shoulder pose. Could have used a bit more dof for the entire bird to be in focus, looks like you had lots of light. I agree with Mia on the id, with the same reservations.

definitely a Melospiza sparrow, but without a view of the breast, it's hard to say, Robert. I'm leaning toward Song based on the streaking I can barely see on the flank, but it could definitely be Lincoln's. I think you could have used some more DOF on this, and it does look like you had enough SS to give that you could have probably gotten more of the bird sharp.

Very nice picture! I like the pose and the catchlight in his eye. For the ID I think I would go Lincoln Sparrow with you, it could also be a Song Sparrow, but in the guide book I have it didn't show much gray on the head of the Song Sparrow, so I'm not totally sure.

Very nice background and head turn. My nit is that it seems a bit soft. My first impression on ID was a Song Sparrow. But as others have commented without seeing the breast it is tough.
