These are not always easy to find in the northern forests. I have been many time's and dipped on this species, so was happy to see this male recently.

A sweet bird to get and the lichen is a bonus. How much of a crop is this? I see quite a bit of lost detail

Great catch! I'd love to see one, much less photograph one. Looks to me like it could use a boost in contrast?

I like the lichen growth on the tree trunk. I have never seen this species before and you have captured it well. Very nice indeed! :toast:

Didn't use my flash for this shot as my batteries had drained in the cold,so had to use some curves adjustment to globally brighten up the image, that is where some of the detail was lost, but for the most part I'm happy with it.

NIck , this is a species on my hit list. You did very well with what you had, I am wanting a little more room on the bottom. Well Done!!.

Love the comp Nick. Great perch area and BG. I see the loss in detail, but this is still a great catch. Would love to see one of these some day.

A difficult species to find and a skittish species to photograph, particularly at a lower level like this. I'm surprised you didn't get more the lichen in focus at f7.1. I understand the loss of detail, but I'd still be happy to have this photo in my files.

A neat shot to get Nick. Really like the perch, clean background and just the fact that you got one of these guys. I too see the lack of detail but your explanation makes sense. For my tastes I'l like more room for that fairly long tail that we mostly can't see.

Nick,

I love the pose, how this shows the foot clinging to the bark, profile of the head and the yellowish crest. I do see some loss of detail but not enough to reduce my enjoyment of the image. I'd like to see a touch more room on the bottom for the part of the tail that isn't visible, that is just my own tastes though. Nice work finding this species.
