Coastal Dream

Sunset above Crescent Beach, Northern Oregon Coast, January 2011.

This image turned out a little different than I had visualized, but I'm quite pleased with the results. I was expecting more of a "grand sunset" with good color in the high clouds, but dense clouds on the western horizon prevented the sunlight from reaching those clouds. Luckily, the sun ended up breaking through the clouds a few minutes before sunset. This illuminated a narrow band of the fog/haze which was hovering above the ocean and created a nice warm glow throughout the scene. The image has a very dreamy feel to it, so I titled it "Coastal Dream". For anyone familiar with the area, you can see Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach poking up through the fog just below the mountains on the horizon.

I'd be pleased with these results. Great Light. The dark clouds adds a perfect ominous feeling, taking this well out of the ordinary pretty sunsets.

The processing here reminds me of an Ian Plant image, which is a great thing! I love the light oozing in from out of the frame and the coastal scenery. I am somewhat torn on the composition though, I feel like the cliff takes up too much of the frame. Maybe consider a crop in from the left to elimante the overlapping, dark areas of tree. Wonderful capture Scott.

Really dig the atm. Very cool effect. And the 16:9 is very pleasing.

I looked at this yesterday but didn't get a chance to comment - got a phone call instead; stupid job, they expect me to work when I'm here!

I really like the way this looks. I love how the beach is kind of cloaked in secrecy, there, but only through the veil of fog. The clouds look great too, as does the entire composition IMO.

Beautiful image with a great light and intersting drama. I only would like to see just a little more of the sea on the upper area, but of course this is something that you can't control. Anyway a great image!
