Going Back

Dense fog on the lake shore. Not much color in the scene to begin with so I shot this intending to go to b&w. Not sure about this one, so any insights on processing, comp or feel would be appreciated.

I love everything about this, especially the comp. Those trees can be easily personified, resulting in a very interesting story being told.

David, I think the idea to go to BW was correct. I like the comp with single tree on the right.

Excellent comp and mood, David. You're the master of the swamps.

Beautiful shot David, and the B&W works great here. When I first saw the thumbnail I wasn't too enthused because I love the color of your images, but after opening it I realized that B&W was the perfect choice. Composition is very strong, as is usual for you. I love the way the more distant trees fade away.

I love it David, looks like you have to create a book of black and whites for your swamp cypress collection!

Wonderful atmosphere, with the trees fading into the mist, and even better because the distance is bright instead of dark. I think that makes this a happier, or more hopeful image than many misty shots. It give me the feeling that the unknown future is something to look forward to.

Man these shots are so COOL! Those trees have so much character, and the B&W looks great. This comp works very well in and of itself, but another option would be to crop about 1/4-1/3 off the bottom for a different feel. Good stuff here!

Very nice b/w image David. I really like the composition with the single tree on the right and the cluster of trees on the left.

I think it's an interesting take on your subject matter and like the way you've isolate the elements. Still, it doesn't quite hold my interest as much as your color work with it's incredible light. I see I'm the minority here, so don't put too much weight on this opinion.

Extraordinary, David. How the trees just seem to recede into the fog is astounding, and the tree on the right, isolated the way it is, works perfectly. Wouldn't change a thing.

Amazing work as usual David. Do you think the fg is framed a little tight? Great study in contrast and shapes.

First thought I had was if you'd made a vertical featuring the tree on the right so I went to your gallery and there it was. I love the b&w, the reflections on the water are incredible. but it's the right hand tree that steals the show for me and I like it even better in b&w than I do in your colored version. Great image and gallery.
