WC #471 - "Damaged"

Tattered ears on this rabbit in Arizona - maybe not so much "damaged" as "just a little worse for wear! "

Males often fight and mangle ears, and running thru brush and brambles also shreds ears.

Love the frontal POV in this action shot Sandy. The direct eye contact, tattered ears, & mid-hop pose make it great! :toast:

He is so cute even if he is a little ruff around the edges Sandy. Beautiful framing love your choice of composition!

Bet he has been in a few bunny fights. Maybe he was a star in Watership Down (one of my favorite books / movie which really is not a kids' movie but my kids were mesmerized by it). Aside from that, I think this is a wonderful entry for this week's theme as well as a wonderful action shot.

Several people asked how I got this shot, so it deserves an explanation.
Taken at the Gilbert Water Ranch in Arizona (Rich Ditch's favorite hang-out).
I was sitting quietly on the ground with my 500 waiting for stilts to get into a good position in one of the ponds, when this rabbit charged out of the bushes directly toward me. I'm certain he didn't even see me, as he got within 20 feet before he pulled up and quickly dove into the bushes. I got a burst of about 8 shots, and the sun nicely back-lit his ears. Mostly pure luck!

What a moment you captured here Sandy! Perfect focus and timing. I have seen deer with tattered ears but never a rabbit. The backlighting on those ears makes it even more pronounced. Great entry!

Hi Sandy. Perfect entry for this weekly challenge. I'm wondering what you would think about cropping off some of the right side and centering your subject. I know we're all taught not to center our subjects (and I always center mine too much), but I'm wondering if that would work in this case. My reasoning for that is because with so much dead space on the right, my eyes get pulled over there in an attempt to find something over there. But if that extra space wasn't there, my eyes would stay on that terrific rabbit. Also, since the rabbit is looking straight at us, there is no need to have space for the rabbit to be looking towards. Anyways, just a thought and I would like to know what you think about it. I'm just curious as I know there are some times when centering the subject works.

Hmmmmm....looks like a young jackalope.Great shot of such an unusual and elusive animal!!!

All kidding aside, this is a wonderful and unusual capture!! I think the frame really lets your eye focus on the subject amongst all the gravel. :toast: The re-post looks so much better. It looks like he's coming right out of the photo! :toast:
