We were crusing the Dallas Creek Road near Ridgeway Colorado for fall color shots, when we came across this bird bathing in a pot hole in the road. He flew up in a nearby tree and gave me this wonderful setting for his portrait.

D70, 80-400 VR @ 400, ISO 200

Wonderful image. Background, sharpness and composition. Everything is perfect. Congrats

Can you please tell me how's the AF on D70 with this lens? Is it reliable? What was the shutter speed you had? Was it hand held?

Thanks in advance..

Jemini,
Thank you and everyone else for your kind comments. Sorry, I should have posted the details originally. This was shot at F8 and 1/500, ISO 200. It was handheld, but I was resting the lens and my arms on the top of the car for extra support. The AF on the 80-400 is OK if you have stong definition between the subject and the surroundings, otherwise it does have a tendency to search.

Thanks for the answer. I was looking around for a second lens that I can take with me when I'm not going for an exclusive photo trip. Thanks for the info..

Skip,

This is wonderful; the only "flaw" is how the leaves intersect the bird's head, but you probably couldn't change that without impacting something else.
