Recently, we went to Pedernales Falls State Park,TX
I made a study of all the shapes carved by water. There were so many..some smooth, some jagged, light, dark, pockmarked by dissolving the limestone with rain, some with sole marks...... I also photographed the actual waterfall, which was interesting. But, not nearly as interesting as the erosional features sculpted by rain and flash floods!
It was midday (horrors, not the golden hour!). The shadows played tricks with your eyes depending on where you stood. If you look closely at the feature, that I mirror imaged...you can see that it seems to be a stone on top of the gray limestone. But, it is actually a depression in the limestone!
To see the depression best, go to the Macro/Closeup gallery and view THAT version of the photo FIRST ...start with your eye at the top left of the left photo. Run your eye along the outside edge and you'll see the depression. Now, look at the right photo...run your eye from top to bottom on the outside edge, and you will swear that this is a flagstone!
Pretty cool!!!
This is a triptych of the same rocks rotated 90 degrees in photo Art. I thought it was very artistic! Compare the two and tell me what you think! I'll post some more from the trip soon.
PS: the rock looks like a flying bat!
