Day Lilly (+repost)

Browsing through the catalog to pass some time and I came across this shot I captured this summer. I've really never been happy with pictures of Day Lillies that I take. However this one caught my eye today so I worked it up. If I remember correctly this was a staged shot taken in my garage with a snipped blossom to hide from the wind.

Pentax K-7, .5 sec, ISO-200, Tamron 90mm macro.

Thanks for taking the time to look, C&C appreciated.

Regards,
Derek

Beautiful image Derek. Great textures and nice warm light. I might consider cloning out the stem but I'm not sure. I'm just not sure that it adds much interest to the image and I don't think the color is present anywhere else. Regardless, I like the image very much.

Thank you for you comment Pat! In fact, the stem is what I was hoping for some feedback on. I questioned whether or not to remove it myself. Here is a version with the stem cloned and a little crop off the bottom to eliminate the dead space. Thoughts on this version?

Definitely, the repost...nice lighting, good dof and the anthers really stand out nicely.

Derek:
The repost is much stronger without the stem drawing attention away from the anthers and stigma. Good DOF and nice lighting.

Derek: We have hundreds of day lilies bloom in our garden every year and they can indeed be tough to shoot. I do prefer the repost and I might even crop this a bit tighter yet although the amount you shaved off the repost on the bottom helps. Well done.>=))>

Derek,

I prefer the repost. It's much stronger for my tastes. Beautiful image.

Lilies I also find very tricky, Derek, but I think you've done a great job here. I like the perspective with just the right amount of curled petal fringes in view, and the anthers especially are beautifully crisp. I do prefer the repost - stems for me often add something to the image but I think it's just that the stiff vertical of this one maybe doesn't help. Lovely image !!
