Varied Thrush

I've had this Thrush stay around my home this winter and I feed it, together with a couple of squirrels, some seed from time to time. This was shot through my slightly open kitchen door, which got him curious and thus he remained still and posed.

1D MkIV, 700mm, 1/80 @f5.6 (forgot to change after adding TC), ISO1600, camera resting on low bench, mid-day very overcast skies, and we had some snow on the ground in January, as we live quite high up.

Thanks for looking; comments appreciated.

Lovely image. I have a backyard full of them, but they are untrainable, and very skittish!

Crisp, sharp image. I am always impressed with the quality of image the cameras will take today with he high ISOs. I very pretty bird. I got to see my first Varied Thrush on our road trip to Alaska last summer.

Robin like in appearance but a 100X more difficult to approach based on my personal experience. It's difficult to get detail on the breast feathers but you did very well in this case. I like the composition with the snow at the bottom and cedar background however, the diagonal brown structure through the bird is just a little bit unfortunate. Nice job getting detail in the snow and the darker areas. :toast:

A little beauty, KC. Maybe next time you can invite him in. Great to get subjects at home, too, and I'd like to have one of these.
