Bill,
I love the side lighting. Really exceptional. Incredible sharpness, very nice perch, and terrific exposure. My only nit, and it's a small, one would be to have slightly more room at the top. Love this Bill. Hope to see more of your work in this gallery.

I will echo David's comments, and add that I really like how the over-size feet are shown. The large image is especially nice. The smaller image looks a bit chunky

Excellent detail, colors and perch.

On my monitor, however, there is a lot of noise in the larger and smaller version... maybe you sharpened it without masking or something but it's really surprising for ISO 250 unless it was grossly under-exposed

Excellent image. Dramatic light; nice perch. Excellent exposure and detail especially in the larger version.

Excellent composition, exposure and subject. Maybe a tad of noise reduction on the background but thats real minor in my mind.

This is fantastic! The light and subsequent feather detail is just stunning. I do see the noise as well, but its minor and probably fixable. The subject really pops though, so most would never notice. :toast:

Gotta love those lily-hoppin' feet!
Nice angle and comp. From here, there is quite a bit of noise from the middle of the breast down, especially in the water..

Bill,

I think this species is often under rated, they have their own kind of beauty. I like the setting, the pose, the eye contact and the dramatic lighting. I agree with the suggestion to apply a bit of NR to the background. On my screen both versions appear slightl over sharpened, feathers that usually look soft are a bit crinkly. I'd back off on the sharpening a small amount. A little more room at the top & bttom of the frame might be good too.

Those feet are amazing. Love the directional light and colors of the moorhen. I'd second Mia's suggestions.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. I definitely back off the sharpening. I ran it through Noise Ninja, but I'll reworj that as well. Thanks again.
