Asio flammeus

I hadn't looked at what this week's challenge was until this morning, glad I did!I should check to see what the challenge is more often.

This was taken on a foggy morning in Montana at Red Rock Lakes NWR. This beautiful owl posed for Ron Dudley and I for 13 minutes. I have quite a few images of her where she was looking right at us, I liked this one a lot.

D200, f7.1, 1/640, ISO 400, +0.3 EV, 200-400mm VR with 1.4x tc at 280mm, natural light, not baited. Larger version provided. Cropped from horizontal to vertical.

I always appreciate your comments & critiques on my images.

Gorgeous work Mia. Love what the fog does to the light and the light to the softened features and textures of the bird. I also like the echoing shape of the perch here. Exceptional image for my tastes.

I agree with Pat that the echoing of shape is an exceptional (subtle) compositional element. Your processing is flawless for a buttery smooth effect, with superb detail. I especially like the forward lean of the foot showing talons and the leaning post!

This one really has a bead on ya Mia, very intense look I must say..
I heard it rumored that you have to actually go where they are to get a shot like this.
Anyway, no wild owls in this boys files :frown:

There's a lot to like in this photo...the soft light from the fog, nice feather detail, complimentary BG and those piercing yellow eyes! A winner!!

I really should have, I actually have some very nice furry critters I could have posted this week if I had seen it. But since I had only one chance to post... you knew it had to be a bird, didn't you??

The incredible eye contact and the background were the first things that struck me when I clicked on your image. Your capture is beautiful. A real work of art.
