My first macro post. This is not truly a macro I guess since I didn't use a macro lens, but what the heck. I don't know the ID of this little fella, but it was pretty. There were bunches of these flying around the day I shot this. Shot on the bank of the Aucilla River, southeast of Tallahassee, FL.

LARGER version available.

D2X w/ 70-200 VR @ 200mm (VR on)
1/500 @ f/8
250 ISO
No filters
Handheld
Capture One 6, CS4, TK's Sharpening Action

Critiques, suggestions, and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking and sharing.

Bill: This is a Gulf Fritillary and a spectacular capture of one. We have a lot of these around our house as we have a bunch of passion vines all over our garden that are host plants for the caterpillars. The underside is altogether different and really beautiful as well. I'd hate to see what you could do with a true macro lens. Really well done.>=))>

The first word that came to my mind on viewing this is "spectacular." The second thing that came to my mind is how clear and focused the butterfly is, so that even in the small version you can see the perfect focus on the antennae. Blue antennae, orange butterfly in perfect focus atop yellow flowers with a wonderful background. It doesn't get any better than that.
