Very cool bird Sandy. I love the colors. I might back off on the crop a bit if this were mine. The large crop is taking its toll and with those great colors I bet there is a "bird smaller in the frame" comp that would look awesome. Just a suggestion.

Awesome find Sandy. I would try to play around with shadows/highlights or fill light depending on the program to bring up the darks a bit.

Sandy,

The water color in this image is stunning and compliments the goldeneye wonderfully. I love the pose of the bird, the great look at the golde eye and the water droplets on the head. The water is so great that I would loosen the crop some to have the bird smaller in the frame and show more water. I think that would be beautiful.

The water color is really outstanding here, Sandy. I like the position of the bird and the water droplets too. Focus is sharp but I don't see much detail in either the whites or blacks. If the bird is very small in the original then maybe there are just not enough pixels to represent the detail. There will be the same level of detail in the duck no matter what crop you use but in a "duck small in the frame" crop you won't notice it. If the cropped image has no side longer than 1200 pixels, then you can see a true "crop effect" because for posting you would need to actually increase the size of the original. Another contributor to the level of detail we see is the lighting. Perhaps the same light that is resulting in that beautiful water is also wiping out local contrast variations on the duck.

Terrific coppery water and a great duck to see! Looks like a really tough exposure...and I wish for more detail. I think a smaller in frame duck is a good idea on this one. Sharon

Great image Sandy! Its always great to find a rarity, but to come away with a nice image like this is icing on the cake. I agree with others that water is such a key element I would back off on the crop (not too much) to show more of it. The beads of water on the duck are nice though. :toast:

A handsome drake Sandy, the autumn colored water puts this one over the edge for me. Nice Work!!!

Nice ideas about a looser crop, and I agree - but, sadly, I have lots of room behind, but no more in front. He wsas moving very quickly downstream and I was at a fenceline so couldn't move with him. I just didn't frame well. Let's see what i can do, though. That golden water is too good to give up.
