Found this BCNH looking around for some food which is becoming increasingly scarce with the continued snow and ice storms on a weekly basis. Hope it makes it through this particularly tough winter.

Really like the snowy/icy setting for the species and the stepping off pose.

Nice sharpness on the bird in this shot Luke. I like the overall comp too. Yes, a tough winter for sure for man and beast.

Nice & sharp Luke, like the way the bird's stepping down in this tentative manner..
Great snowy scene too. Tried shooting birds as they drank through holes in the ice today, mixed results..Very cold here in Central Texas right now

really nice, Luke. great detail, nice action. I'm enjoying your herons in the snow. only nit for me is minor--I'd prefer a little less on top and a little more on the bottom.

I've never seen a juvenile BCNH. I can appreciate the tentative step in the water, as we are in the grips of winter in Texas. The neutral colors blend nicely with the surroundings, and I like the way the BG completes the story. Nice composition and sharpness.

Luke,

I really like this. I love how the heron is stepping off of the snow onto the vegetation, the snowy background, light, sharpness, exposure & details. It conveys the challenge birds deal with on a daily basis very well.

The bird even looks cold, Luke. Love the intent look and the step down.
