Proud Pelican

This one look rather pleased with itself even though it had just lost a fish in a skirmish with a Gull. There is a fish at the tip of the bill and the obvious one across the bill. It had at least three in the pouch before the altercation.
I have not gotten used to the new camera and I keep running up the SS with my thumb.I had been shooting flight shots when I saw this activity so it was already up a bit.
C+C always welcome -Lord knows that I could use it!

Dan, I love the pose of this pelican, and to me the specific pose and appearance of the pelican makes the more-or-less centering work really well. It's like a "look at me" image. In the larger version the detail and clarity of the bill and the fish across the bill are really good.

Dan,
this pelican seems to me very happy with the meal in the beak. Great look. :toast:

This has really nice DOF Dan. I might use just a tad of curves adjustment to try and separate the bird from the BG. It's a really nice catch though and it's probably a good thing you had a quick shutter speed to stop water motion.

Great capture, Dan: this bird looks like it's about to present this fish to us! Sharp and detailed. I like how we can see detail on the fish too. Color, water, broken reflection are all fine. My only suggestion would be to try to lighten the shaded side of the bird's face a bit. It's interesting that the shadow seems to be darkest there: might have something to do with the shape of this bird's head as well as the light direction. :toast:
