Brambling

For me a memorable day because of two things. First I photographed a brambling. Not because it's hard to do but to be honest....I'm not very fond of these birds. The same goes for the great tit. Don't know what it is but I think it's their dull color. Second thing is...I shot this one at iso 800. Both didn't disappoint me. The male brambling is not dull and iso 800 is not grainy

Well executed as usual Ed, with great colour & definition, breaks the BOAS version. :jump: BTW, break it to us gently, ISO800 that's a first isn't it, next you will be changing the f stop too.

Personally I might take some off the top here Ed, fine for editorial etc as presented, but stand alone I think it could stand some shaving? Also, just a bit of gardening either side with some of those stray bits of bracken too perhaps, but guess it is all down to personal feelings.

BTW were you wearing the Astbury gloves at the time, LOL.

Thanks guys. Know what you mean Steve. Problem is...this bird doesn't come alone. Before I get into my hide I make sure all looks good. Within half an hour 10 greenfinches, 11 bramblings and some blackbirds enter the scene to make a mess out of it. I just can't get in and out of the hide every 10 minutes. Still...this was the first time I tried and I'm sure the next will be within a few days. To be continued.

ps. Not wearing those kinky gloves Steve  That was a good story!!

Appreciate the feedback Ed, great to know the amount of birds that are coming in to the location. Hope all goes well and look out for more postings soon. :wavey:

Yes a good story, and thanks for thinking about me.

ISO800 on the D3s is like iso100 on most Canons. As this proves Edwin, finding the ISO button was worth while ;) You could have shot ISO1600 and f5.6 and sharpened some of those messy ferns  But hell, pretty darn good from here.

An excellent capture Edwin
On my D3 I jump up to ISO 1000 from 400 if I need to, 800 and 1000 look the same to me, both are very clean.
Well done.

Nothing wrong with ISO800 Edwin. No issues with noise that I can see.

Great perch, head angle and super background. I might have cropped some off the bottom as the OOF bottom left draws my eye a little.

Cheers

Austin

No point buying a Ferrari only to drive 5 mph (unless you're on a busy high street trying to impress the ladies  ). A new horizon awaits you...

Thanks all!!

Des, the reason why I bought the D3s was not the high iso performance. But of course it would be stupid not to get the most out of it. We will see where it's going.

Jesus, you'll be on 1000iso before too long then

Typical Edster shot, well thought out and executed - take no notice of that nasty Kaluski bloke, leave your fstop where it is  :wavey:

PS. what kinky gloves - I'm lost here so help me out!

A young man called Stephen wanted to buy a Christmas present for his new girlfriend.

Does this ring a bell Andy?
