Morning Grass

OK, this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really like this. It's busy and complex, and the web is certainly not the best place for viewing. It really needs to be seen printed to be appreciated. At the very least, please pull up the larger version.

I remember the morning like it was yesterday - an autumn morning, temps in the 50's, fog hanging over the lake, mist rising off the water, and not so much as a hint of breeze. Just pure peace and quiet. What a great way to begin your day!

Pull up the LARGER version and see if you can find the spider's web.

D2X w/ 70-200 VR @ 125mm
1/80 @ f/11 - MLU and mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
Don't remember about filtration
Tripod
Capture One 6, CS4, TK's Luminosity & Sharpening actions

Critiques, suggestions, and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Have a great day, I'm off to the beach to shoot sunrise and enjoy this beautiful morning! :wavey:

You are right. Must look at the larger version to appreciate the little things you see in the image. I'm a little unsure as to whether I would crop some off the left side due to the heavy darkness overall. I like that I can see the fog lingering in the grass and the sunlight streaming in. I applaud you for shooting this. Have a great photography day at the beach. I'm in the office doing tax returns (a quick lull before the storm!).

Certainly my cup of tea Bill! A very delicious cup of tea! Perfectly composed and presented. Great balance and meaning in the composition. That plant (?) at the eddge between reeds and water adds so much. There is even a spider web discernible in the large version. Great work Bill!

Hey Bill, when I looked at the smaller version, I was kinda, "hmmmm...", but the big one certainly is gorgeous, love the colors in the grasses, the fog in the midst, the web, and the water. Can imagine being there!

Looks great to me, the grasses practically vibrate and the subtleness of the mist and web keep you exploring the image. I might try cropping a bit from the top to move the reed seed head closer to the top 1/3 position, that might give it a little more emphasis.

Bill. I admire your picture, the mist arising from the water makes it very impressive!

WOW, I'll bet this one does really look wonderful in print, Bill. The detail even at web size is very good and no doubt super in a large print as well...

The detail of the larger version makes this much better. Lots of nice detail in there and the light is perfect.

I really like your work, Bill. It must be admired in bigger version - when looking at small one the image looks little "noisy". But it is also, like Dietrich's, my cup of tea! I was afraid to make such pictures but when I did my first one I realized that it is quite good idea! Great job!

Tea is for wimps! I like coffee myself, and this image quite a bit too. I think Stan nailed it, we tend to enjoy these types of shots. The spider web is awesome, and I imagine really makes a big statement if this were printed large. Light and mist work to good effect too!

I really like it Bill and I like how you composed the image. I didn't even notice the spider web in the small version. I bet the detail in a print would be incredible.

Really like the abstraction and it would be a great large print. I could only imagine the sand gnats hiding out in there. Well done. :toast:

bill - simple but darned effective. if i'm to pull a minor nit out of the hat, it'd be that i'd have preferred the spider's web and flowers to be either higher or lower - either really - but away from the 50-50 line. an alternative way of getting there is to slice a little off the top.
