Magpie Goose

With the record rainfall and floods of the past few weeks all the local lakes, wetlands and rivers are overflowing. I set myself up under the Kwik Camo in some long grass of a paddock that was slowly going under water. Birds were coming in to feed on the insects etc that were being flushed out by the water.

Great low angle Rob, I bet you were getting a little wet too at that angle. Lovely light and pose, natural colors and eye contact. Love the top knot on this species.

Very fine view of this bird, Rob. Nice exposure: good detail in the blacks and whites; we even see some detail in the shadows. The cranial knob is very visible too. I just read that this knob grows with age and is more prominent with males. My only nit with the shot would be the decapitated reflection. It's a little distracting and maybe the easiest way to deal with it, if you want to, would be to blur it more. Interesting bird, very well captured. :toast:

Love the perspective in this Rob and the light. The neck in the reflection catches my eye a bit. I might crop up a little or blur it a bit more as has already been suggested. No big deal though. It's a good looking image for my tastes as posted.

wild looking goose, Rob--very cool to see this. I like the low angle, the well-handled exposure, the reeds in the bg. I could see taking a little off the bottom as suggested, but not a big deal.

One strange looking goose, Rob. I really like the low angle. Very nice detail throughout, a good setting and a very good exposure. A really nice shot.

These sure are interesting birds Rob. Would love to see them in their native habitat some day. Nice job getting low and a great exposure. Way to sacrifice your body to get the shot.

Beautiful lighting on this one, Rob. You have nailed the exposure and the sharpness, and the natural setting works a treat.

Now that is a goose you do not see everyday, amazing the bird species you have. Excellent job with the low angle and contrast challenges, well done.
