Very cold goldeneye

This was from last weekend when it was minus 25 degrees outside but just beautiful sun, crystal blue water and ice.

Shot with Nikon d200 HH, 300mm F6.3, 1/1250 Iso 400. It is cropped about 40%. I had used exposure compensation of 2/3 but that was over exposed so I dropped it to 0 EV in Lightroom.

I would like to get better detail on the duck and would appreciate ideas.

Hi Jim, Thanks! I forgot to mention it is a ferry channel that stays open due to the ferry. The open water is limited as ice forms fast but the ferry breaks it up every hour.

Lindy,

This image has a nice crisp, cold feel to it because of the ice in the foreground. Some of the whites of the goldeneye are over 255, you may need to remove them from the sharpening mask prior to sharpening to keep them below 255. I may have increased the dof some to get the ice more in focus too since you had enough shutter speed, having it in focus would have made the image have even more impact.
