Ice tectonics - repost
by Rob Graham
The pools at Cheyenne Bottoms WA are frozen solid. On Saturday afternoon, the ice was full of long cracks, but not many ridges. By Monday evening, this ridge had formed along one of the cracks and the warm temps had created a lot of standing water. I'm not one to wish for cold weather, but I'm having fun with the ice this year. Our warm day time temps may make it unsafe to get out on the ice by the weekend. 7D, ISO 200, f/11, 1/50, 6 stacked images to get extended focus, minimal crop, ~10 minutes before sunset
When stacking, is it better to use a wider f-stop like f/5.6 or something narrower like f/8 or f/11? I'm getting mixed results so far. CS5 couldn't handle the sky/far shoreline in this image, and I had to mask back in from one of the original images. Not sure why, but it happened on each series I tried from this scene.

7 commentsMy comment is if you cropped the top a little just to the top of the water line.I think that little sliver of sky competes with your lovely colours and composition. But that is just my opinion! Cheers
It looks like our ice days are over for now with 50-60 degree days coming up.
