Hyena cub? with a bone

Here is a Hyena that I found walking proudly with a piece of bone its its mouth.

I suspect that this is a fairly young Hyena as it actually looks vaguely cute and fluffy which is not typical of the Hyenas that I have seen in Kenya on previous visits. I would welcome your input on the approximate age.

I was a little fortunate with the background. The ground dropped away just behind the Hyena which I feel enhances the appearance.

I have more images from this trip to Kenya available HERE

Canon 1DMK4, 500mm, f4, 1/4000, ISO800

C&C welcome.

Cheers

Austin

Perfectly framed and perfectly timed mid-stride. Nice one :toast:

I very much like the low POV here Austin and the placement within the frame, walking in. Agree about the RHS but guess you can't have everything and that is how it was shot.

Re age, perhaps a year or just over Austin? Pups are cute as they are black and just as mischievious as dogs.

Hi Austin. Good sharp eye level shot with unusually diffuse BG. I never seemed to get that sort of BG in Tanzania but fingers crossed for next week eh

I agree with Steve on the age but not much more than a year though as the face and ear is in to good a condition for anything older.

Try Tanzania with me next year maybe
