The Pinnacle Desert

I have been away for a while. In the mid of January, my wife and I went to Western Australia - a place I first visited in Australia. We spent two days in a small town called Cervantes 200 KM away from the capital city Perth, which is also a place to visit the unique WA landscape Pinnacles.

In the late afternoon, we drove to the Pinnacle Desert from Cervantes. We saw these interesting clouds over Pinnacles. I only had time to take couple of shots, then the cloud formation was dramatically changed. This was also the first time I took photos in desert.

Please view the larger version. It would be nice to hear your comments on this photo.

You had quiet an interesting sky here. Beautiful light and you have chosen a very interesting perspective and view of those pinnacles. The beautiful warm light and the color are another plus here. Well done. I really like this one

Nice Yan, although the colors a a little over saturated for my taste. The composition is excellent and the lines created by the shadows are interesting. Well done.

Nice color, great clouds, and interesting formations. A little oversharpened on my monitor, but a dramatic shot. :toast:

That is weird! :toast:

Wishing for softer light like maybe when one of the puffy clouds blocked the sun a bit...

Still a very cool image.

An otherworldly scene! Color and clarity are great. Love the cloud puffs. And the pinnacles! Very dramatic.

This is cool. Could see cropping a bit from the less as to put more focus on the pinnacles.

I like this a lot! I would like to see one with softer, diffused light, but do enjoy the brightness here. The golden sand contrasts well with the blue sky. I think the clouds are a nice element too.

I really like the way the fragmented clouds complements the fragmented pinnacles. Nice capture.

Cool shot Yan. I've never seen anything like this before. Both the pinnacles and the sky are very interesting.

Cool formations. I could see a crop from the right of about an inch and did you consider a B&W version? :toast:

Great subject and composition, Yan. This appears 'overcooked' by my standards - too much saturation and contrast. Modify those, and you have a great image here.

Gorgeous image! It looks a little over-sharpened to my eye, but minor nit. Beautiful work.

From experience I can attest that this is a difficult place to photography so you've done a resonable job, Yan . I do think the contrast it is a bit strong though, and sharpness isn't what it might be. Talk to some of your fellow NPNers. They're very generous in sharing technical knowledge.

This is an excellent take in this scene Yan. I think it would benefit a bit of crop from the top too.

Hi Folks,

Thanks very much for your comments and helpful suggestions. I have tried to reduce the contrast and sharpness, as well as to reduce the saturation of blue and gold colors a bit. Here is the revised version. Not sure if it needs further reduction or not. Comments are welcome as always.
