Hunting Barn Owl

I had a good hour or so yesterday with a Barn Owl, and whilst I got some decent perched shots, I'm struggling to make some of the flight shots look, well, interesting!

I've had a go at processing, the usual stuff, levels/contrast/USM/Cropping, but I can't seem to give it any 'oomph' without it looking horribly overdone.

What other techniques should I be looking at learning?

Thanks in advance! :)

I wouldn't dream of offering you advice on techniques, Iain, but I do love the way the light is shining through the wing and tail feathers.

A back-lit barn owl hunting...how much more oomph do you want?!!!
Super image - surprised at the lack of responses

Thanks David & Simon, very good of you both to comment. :toast:

I've had a play with the RAW files and tried lots of different ways of processing, but none that please me so far. Do others find that they sort of arrived at a 'style'? I feel I'm a bit inconsistent really!

Nice BO shot. My advice would be to get as much right in the camera.

I know what you mean, RAW can look a bit flat and you need to bring them out a bit. I think i am in your boat really I find I tend to get it ok sometimes not great the next. Can't really help but know what you mean!

Cracking shot though lovely pose, i love it when they hover.
