Haiku too

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry consiting of 17 moras which are similar to our syllables. There are 3 stanzas of 5 then 7 then 5 moras. They are brief which may reflect the Japanese inclusion of the transitory nature of all things in some of their art. In my attempt at minimalism here, the poems came to mind during processing of the image.

You can find more information about Haiku on Wickipedia.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

I really love and appreciate images like this Morris. I like the elusive detail of the snow and apparent endurance of the grass stalks. A wonderfully beautiful and intimate scene.

The out of focus shading adds a lot for me here, nicely done!

Simple but very effective. I like the detail of the swirly snow in the FG. A very elegant image, Morris :toast:

You've been hitting a lot of home runs lately Morris. The subtle shadows are really nice. Great eye.

Just beautiful. I love the way the subtle shadows of the sinuous drifts sort of stairstep one's vision toward the grass stalks.

Calligrahic strokes of a fine brush are grasses in the snow.

I really, really like this, Morris.

Just a wonderful find Morris. A minimalistic photo with a ton to look at. The wind lines just have enough texture and detail and the top fading away in focus is awesome. Not sure if anyone mentioned it or not but there may be a couple of dust spots above the grasses. Cheers

Tony, you give a whole new meaning to the term "TV dinner." I hope it was a good meal.
Thanks, Raymond, I missed those and I'll clean those up.
See you at the shindig, Anne.

Outstanding! The subtle soft detail in the foreground is wonderful. My only suggestion would be to consider perhaps cloning out the shorter stalk on the left.

Jim suggested cloning out the short stalk on the left. In my opinion the short stalk adds balance; with the short stalk, the middle bunch, and the right-most blade, you have a nice triangle that's a counterpoint to the snow V in the foreground.

Very appropriate title. I really love how much volume and form you achieved with so few tones. My only suggestion would be to add a very slight amount of definition at the base of the reeds - as without it they could feel "placed" if that makes sense. -- but I think it does work very well as is. :toast:

The winner of the unofficial Haiku contest is Lon. Although Tony's was a strong entry with his NPN reference, and Stan had a perfect kireji (cutting word), Lon's was more aesthetic. :toast:
