A young Great Spotted Woodpecker taken from the hide out in my yard.
It's wonderful to watch these beautiful birds, especially when they're less than 10 feet away

Very nice detail and sharpness Geoffrey. I love the rain on the bird and the slightly open beak. Perch tree has a lot of character too. Nice BG to set things off. Cool species IMO.

I like seeing the water droplets on the woodpecker along with the rain streaks in the background. The larger version has wonderful detail, excellent shot, really enjoyed viewing the larger post.

Superb detail, Geoffrey. The water drops on the breast are very neat and I like the slightly open beak.

Beautiful bird and tree. Love the raindrops on the bird. Not sure about the few rain streaks, though - there are so few of them, i thought at first they were a processing problem with the BG.

A very well executed shot of a classic pose, but I wonder if those are all water drops or some sawdust bits? The raindrops in the background are very nice.

Nice image with great detail, especially in the larger version. Must have been great to get so close--230mm. Rain is nice and I like the droplets on the bird.
