Ashen Flame

Haven't posted in a while - I've just recently gotten around to photo editing again.

This once-burned Bristlecone Pine stands alone in the majestic White Mountains of California. The distant Sierra Nevada Mountains were colored purple this summer morning due to the wildfires that had been raging to the west (2008 CA fires).

Check out the larger version -- Comments and suggestions appreciated.

A+

The comp and subject are magic! What a wonderfully stark landscape. The contrast and color of the background light is captivating and really makes this photo shine.

Andrew, there is nothing left to say except that I desire to be in this place! The plain composition allows the expressive sculpture-like wood in the foreground to be shown at its best.

Beautiful composition. Liked the way the lone trunk stands amidst vast space.
Lovely colours as well.

Andrew,

Wonderful image and well done composing the negative space to convey the stark other worldly desolation that these grizzled trees live in.

Awesome photo. Wonderful color, light and composition. Very thought provoking, wonder how this tree ended up on its own.

The feeling of desolation is portrayed very well here Andrew! It makes me wonder if there was anyone else nearby for you to capture such a mood? Fantastic work! :toast:

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments.

Steve - indeed I was completely alone for this sunrise - and many hours from anyone else. Interesting thought - as I think your mood definitely has a large effect on the comps you "see".

Andrew, voices travel pretty far here but I had a feeling you weren't near any of that.

Beautiful image! I wondering about a comp that would eliminate the stump(?) on the right? :toast:

Saw this exceptional shot on your website. I hope it's hanging extremely large over your family room (and in many other family rooms)!
