Yellow-breasted Chat

A species normally found in the Interior of B.C., this one showed up recently for about a month in the Vancouver area and was a "lifer" for me. I finally saw it on my third day of trying, but it came into the open only briefly. It was not seen again soon after this day. This is one 'skulker'! Maybe I'll get to see another in the Interior later this year!

1D4, 700mm, 1/400 @f7.1, ISO1250, mid-day overcast sky, tripod, cloned a couple of the OOF reeds on left BG, and then decided to leave things be.

I really like this shot. The detail is great. If it were mine, I would print it and put it on my wall. I am expanding my shots to looking for small birds. Boy they are hard to capture in the clear. You have provided me with incentive to keep trying. Thanks

Nice one, KC. Congrats on the lifer. I have seen these rarely and briefly, but never got a photo. Beautiful bird.

Nice job capturing this Chat KC. They are fairly common around here in the spring, and I have yet to get a decent shot. They do not come out in the open very often. Very nice job bringing out detail in overcast lighting.

Very clean for iso 1250. Very nice colour and comp. It sure has been wet and cold here in the Pacific Northwest. Congrats on the "lifer"...

I see these guys every once in a while and have never gotten an image any where close to this good. Nicely in the open, great headturn, eye to eye perspective, and great details. Well done image of this skulker.

I'm so jealous! They live just to the west of here, but I have yet to ever see one as well. And this guy was there recently? Weird!

Really nice capture of him, I like the perch he's on. Reeds don't bother me at all.

Great work (as always) Kwan! I like the green moss on the perch also and the head turn on this bird.

Love the pose & setting KC, great look at the eye too. Nice job getting this species as much in the open as you did.
