Band of Gold

I just posted a different version of this area in M&N, as it was a spot I had my eye on for awhile. I was trying to capture just the right amount of plant and shadow and snow. In summer, it's a beautifully lush green field. Larger posted, thank you for any C&C.

Bill, I really like the comp and textures here. The deep blue snow certainly adds interest, but I kind of wonder what it might look like with less blue saturation.

Bill,

I must say that your vision on this one is revealing and moving forward. The simplicity of the warm light, the textures and color, and those delicate shadows I think make this one of your strongest images to date. And seeing the M&N version tells me what you saw and were able to pull out of the larger landscape.

The blue-ish cast to the snow I think is at the point of personal choice. I often comment about blue, but I really like the colors here - including the band of gold at the top.

This may lack a single focal point, but I most certainly can see this hanging prominently on a wall somewhere.

Well done to detect this interesting pattern and make a fine composition out of it!

Thanks folks. Wayne and Lon, yes, I was a bit concerned about the blueish cast on this and at least recognized it (unlike many other times!). But I left it in this version as is. I may post one other perspective/comp from here where it is not so prominent.

Also Lon, it's kind of funny, but the farmhouse image in M&N was actually secondary! I've been watching this field on its own for a month or so, waiting for a good light/snow, etc. to shoot it in, as I too really found the gold and white attractive. When I got out of my vehicle though, the home on the hill with the old stone wall, AND the field all came into focus, and it was really breathtaking IMO. :toast:

Bill, this does not appeal to me as much as most of your work. I like the big version better, but my eye kept going to the very top of the image, where the breaks in the foliage and terrain show up, and to that sort of horizontal line in the snow about 1/3 of the way up. That said, I can understand that this might work really well as a print, where you can get the true feeling from it. I do like the shadow in this. Looking forward to where you go with this idea.
