Oceanic Inkblot

Carlsbad, California

No long story here or crazy trek to get to this beach...sorry. Wish I could, though, find time to take some elaborate journeys and find those amazing places that many here have been posting. Moving on.... I shot this the other night when I had some time to actually get out and shoot a decent sunset using my new Nikon 14-24 lens. Just testing it out, really. The image reminds me of one of those inkblots.

Canon 5Dmk2, Nikon 14-24, two exposure blend.

I like the 50/50 split Jimmy, it suits the image perfectly. Natural looking saturation too.

Gary.

I like the soft pastels. I also like the textures coming through from the sand.

So how is that 14-24? I'm considering it myself.

Very nice, Jimmy. The water looks great with the combination of sand and reflections.

Very nice and peacefull, I recognized those clouds I was out in South Carlsbad that night as well and came away with a few nice shots. The 14 adds a whole new dimension.

It must have been fun using the new lens, seems like a lot of us are considering that upgrade. Nice blend and I think I see a rabbit in this inkblot.

I get the inkblot sensation as well. Not as compelling as a lot of your other work, but interesting nonetheless.

I too am interested in your thoughts on the 14-24

Yup, that's a great lens. Everything looks blurry edge to edge! You can do that with a $300.00 18-70mm. Wanna trade?

Very beautiful with great light and color. I like the split comp as well because it suits the harmony of this. Well done!

Jimmy,

Rorschach here we come.... Great use of the wide angle. I think you could even get away with darkening and adding a tad bit more of saturation - of course to you personal taste. Lovely seascape.
