Early bird

I look forward to this weeks challenge to see what inspired each of us!!
MY first trips to photograph anything were to a local pond.I only chose birds because I knew them to be at the pond. This gal was a real ham and stole my heart.Although I never fed them she would always come by and make sure.Soon after these visits to the pond The Southeast Wildlife Expo presented me with more birds and even though they were captive they were beautifull.I was hooked.

This was in P mode with a Panasonic prosumer model and not too bad considering it was hand held at 1/320.

A lovely first shot! It's funny to look back and see where we have come from in our photography!

With such an endearing subject, it's easy to see why she made such a positive impression on you Dan.

That bird has some great character! I like the nice patterns in the water as well.

Dan,

Lucky to have a neat spot nearby to make images of your avian friends. I have Palos Verdes for the shorebirds that winter here in So Cal. Nice detail in this crisp image, bow wake is just that added part that takes the image to the nnt level. But yuck what an awful lunch, slimy algae.

Paul

But my forte is not birds though I do try when they co-operate.

Dan, I had never guessed this lifelike picture to be one of your first steps!

Looks good Dan.. I think you did an excellent job, especially so with this being your first shoot-out :)
She's got style, and knows how to use it

I think it turned out really well, Dan. This duck even seems to have an interested look in her eye: a real "personality kid". Feeling some kind of personal connection with birds is special and I think lures many of us into bird photography. :toast:

Dan,

She certainly looks like she's not shy in front of the camera! I used to shoot wildlife and I still remember the excitement and challenge of capturing moving subjects! I'm sure this one means a lot to you. And it's an excellent capture of the mallard(?) And the patterns/ripples in the water make for a nice background too.
