Northern Shoveler

Another flight shot from the Bosque.

I was pleased getting this wing position, and a nice background for this shoveler. Wish for a little more light on the head, but it just wasn't there.

Added a little canvas on the top, cropped to about 75% of full frame.
NR on the background

Canon 50D, 500mm f/4 with 1.4x TC
1/2000 @ f/6.3, ISO 400
Handheld

Larger version included.

Really nice flight shot! Great wing position!
Shovelers are fast and unpredictable in their path, so catching one is very tough.

Nice BIF shot Keith. I like that the light catches both the water droplets on the belly and the single drop trailing the duck. :toast:

There are quite a number of interesting and attractive colors and shades in this image, Keith. The background really makes the duck appear very three dimensional too. I think it's a beautiful BIF capture as posted. :toast: :toast:

Keith, the beautiful background and the wing position really make this a nice photo. The water drops are pretty cool too!

Nice detail in the bird and an utterly gorgeous bg, Keith. Crisp water drops always add something to an image, and they certainly do in this case. :toast:

Gorgeous flight shot, Keith. Nice to know they can gracefully haul that ungainly bill up into the air! Love 'em. Nicely done.

Couldn't agree more with the previous comments, fine flight photo. Increasing the exposure a little on the front part of the head might be worth a try for a bit more detail there. Nice job Keith!

You are pretty tough on yourself. I love the flight angle through the frame, the BG and pose.

Tough to get a shoveler in flight let alone with its head out of water. Nice shot
