Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola)

I previously posted a wet bananaquit. Here's a dry one! They are interesting little birds and quite common in the Caribbean. Most often we see them sipping nectar from flowers. However, they also eat insects. The one in this image seemed to be finding something under the leaves. I photographed him at the entrance to the Mastic Trail on Grand Cayman in December.

All comments very welcome.

1D Mark IV, 400 mm f/5.6, 1.4x TC, hand held : ISO 1250, 1/800 s, f/8.0, 0 EV, 6.9 MP after cropping, usual NR, exposure adjustment, sharpening.

Wonderful feather detail and interesting pose. I really like the way his head is angled and his eye appears. Too bad the leaf is in the way but not much you can do about that. The feather detail and colors are very cool.

looks great, Steve! I like everything about it. Great pose, nice details, lots of leaves in focus--having the leaf in front of the bird in focus makes a big difference here.

and ISO 1250 with a big crop, I'd have never known--that 1DIV is up to the task! wow.

This would be framed at my house. The habitat hides little and adds much IMO.Probably not and unusual pose for this guy but it is for most. To my eye it needs a little sharpening -in this case -just below the eye.
Two thumbs up on this one!
