Snowy Book Cliffs

Winter finally decided to pay us a visit here in the Grand Valley. We received about 4.5 in. of snow last Thursday, and it has not been above freezing since with 3 consecutive days of below zero low temperatures. I ventured out on Sat. just before sunset to capture the Book Cliffs covered with a mantle of white. This is only about 10 min. north of my house. It was so cold out though, I was a wussy and shot this one out my car window, with the heater cranked!

Canon Rebel XTI, handheld (but supported by the car window frame!)
70-200 mm lens
ISO 100, F10 @ 1/160

I love the comp--some real nice patterns/design here. Feels a bit flat to me--maybe a slight boost in levels and/or saturation?

Cool side lighting and texture Angela. I could see a little more contrast in the hills to make them pop more but I think it's just fine the way it.

A majestic and serene landscape. The patterns and shadows pronounce the textures. Enhancing the contrast might be an option, yet hopefully not at the cost of this very specific mood!

A very clean picture Angela. The late afternoon/evening (at this time of year) does wonders for the mountains. I might clone out the telephone poles though and maybe pull down on the darks a touch. Cheers

I'm on my work monitor, but it does indeed appear flat to me, and the featureless doesn't help any either. The hills themselves look beautiful covered with snow.

There's nothing wrong with a heated blind angela  . A slight adjustment in contrast might bring the wonderful lines in the mountains out even more along with the shadows in the forground. Wonderful photo, makes me miss scenery like this. :toast:

Good to see a post from you again! I like this image, agree that it could use a slight bump up in contrast. I would recomend cloning out at least the poles on the left side of the photo as they do stand out more than the ones on the right. Nothing wrong with a heated blind, my favorite kind. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, I'm with you, Angela, when it comes to cold! LOL. But this looks beautiful, indeed. Lovely soft light.
