The Sun Is The Same
by Raymond D Smith
Clear skies lead me to shoot in a more intimate way. I was hoping for some clouds this morning but they disappeared just before sunrise, so I headed to this spot for when the sun broke over the tree line. All along the the shore line of Lake Huron you can find these twisted White Pines among pink granite, they have been inspiring artists for years. I find composing these types of scenes difficult, I believe the snow has helped me in simplifying the scene. Please let me know what you think of the composition and saturation, does having a cloudless sky affect the photo? All C&C welcome.

6 commentsI think this is a beautifully captured image. You've done a great job capturing the light and controlling the exposure. The color and saturation are just as I would imaging the scene if I was there myself. The composition is excellent as well, although I would offer this thought. I'm wondering which part of the scene you were attracted to most? The foreground snow and late light, or the wind-swept white pine? I say that because this has a bit of a 50/50 tension to it and I find myself flopping back and forth between the upper and lower halves. If this were slightly narrower and a slight crop from either top or bottom, the balance and 50/50 split could be minimized. Don't know if that would make a stronger image, but just my thoughts on the comp.
The cloudless sky is not an issue because you've done well to mostly fill the frame with the very interesting pine.
