A log in the ice

A micro-landscape with a small log and a layer of thin ice, photographed on the last day of the year. The ice now covers parts of Lake Avigliana, not far from Torino in northwestern Italy, a lake that was formed when the big Alpine glaciers retreated at the end of the last glacial period. I was intrigued by the delicate pattern in the ice and by the contrast between the warmer wood tones and the cold tones in the ice. Medium format digital, ISO 50, 0.6 s, f/11, tripod.

Antonello, this works out fantastic as an abstract. The diagonals are very well balanced!

I really like the diagonal lines as well as the contrasting blues and browns Antonello. Excellent detail in the larger view.

Lots of interesting shapes and lines. I would crop to remove the upper RHC. :toast:
