New Year's Roadrunner

New Year's Day, 2011, dawned cold and bright in central Kansas, with temps rising from single digit overnight lows to around 12 degrees F when I took this photo. A light dusting of snow was still on the ground from Friday. The roadrunner was sunning itself in its normal location, but just enough closer to the road that I could get almost full frame headshots. The roadrunner appears to be doing well, but look in the Avian Forum for a question I just posted. 7D, f/11, 450mm, ISO 400, 1/800, ~2/3 original. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Happy New Year, everybody.

Beautiful portrait, Rob. The texture in the feathers is incredible. :toast:

I would have thought you would get more comments. We do not see Roadrunner portraits often. Two thumbs up from me!

A very unique shot Rob. Love the detail for sure and the BG is nice for this colored bird. A cold runner for sure too.

Very nice details in that face. Doesn't look too happy with the cold.

Nice detail in this head shot. Good eye contact. I like the fur-like quality of the feathers near the bottom and the simplicity of the background since the bird is so very ornate.
