Back in 2007 I was finishing up my first Africa trip with a couple days at Lake Manyara National Park. It had been a long trip, we were tired and it was actually uncomfortably hot for the first time in over three weeks. Suffice to say, I wasn't all that energetic or motivated, and we were on our way home when I saw several giraffes in the distance. I almost ignored them, but at the last moment asked our guide to turn around and get closer.
I think at the time I had ideas about a "baby African wildlife" calendar, and was simply looking for additional stock footage of another young animal.

But I came away with one of my favorite images of the trip, featuring these two youngsters huddled together against a backdrop of color with the lake in the distance.

7 commentsI would definitely hang this on my wall!!
I really like this - somewhat subtle (that's NOT a negative) with a classic composition and simply very well executed. My only extremely minor nit is that I think the image would be slightly stronger if the out-of-focus vegetation along the right side of the bottom of the frame wasn't there (but it's so trivial that calling it a "distraction" would be exaggerating the case). Well done!
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
