Audubon's Warbler

I have been looking for another lens to take in my kayak, and on an upcoming deployment. Something that, if I dumped it in the water or filled it with sand, wouldn't break the bank. So, I am trying a ED 70-300 4-5.6 that Oly had on special for a measly 300 bucks. Yesterday it was dark and rainy, but I was impatient to try the lens out, so I got out the portable blind and the flash, and staked out the feeders in the backyard. This Audubon's Warbler seemed to be very proud to pose for me!

Olympus e3
Olympus ED 300 f4-5.6
ISO 250
f8
1/250th
70% of FF
FL50 on TTL Auto
Neat Image on the bg

Comments and critiques welcome. Thanks.

Nice pose. A bit dark for me.

A different look with that dark background with this species Mike. You had tough conditions. I think I might try lightening this up a little to see how it looks. I hope you like the new lens.

Michael,

I like the pose of the warbler and how it has its head tilted up. For me this is a bit too dark, you might be able to bring it up some.

I really like the pose on this guy, he looks quite proud of himself! Agreed it looks a bit dark.

I got a kayak this summer, and the first time I took it out with my camera, I got some neat shots of nesting cormorants out in the middle of a very large lake. And then, I ended up taking a swim about 20 minutes later! Fortunately I'd stowed my camera in the dry hatch just a few minutes before, but now I'm gun-shy to try again! I wish you luck!!

Good detail and use of flash Michael, the lens sounds like a good buy for you.
Audubon's Warbler, Myrtle Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler...
I'm so confused
You might consider some selective brightening/lightening of the bird.
Good luck on your deployment :wavey:
