Bald eagle

From an encounter this evening. The eagle was chasing an osprey trying to get it to drop the fish it was carrying. It succeeded. I will never get tired of watching these birds fly. Power personified. What a treat. Low angle evening light. Please view the larger version as the smaller version shows very little in comparison. Oops, forgot to mention, added a small amount of canvas to the top.

The larger image is impressive Ron. What a wingspan in this presentation! Nice job getting light under the wings. I can see the intensity on the eagles face for the osprey and its prey. From your techs I suspect you may have taken this vertically. If so, doubly impressive HH with that lens at this angle.

Good job on the exposure Ron, I know first hand how challenging the white heads and tails can be on sunny days without making the rest of the bird look dark. This really looks good, especially for a sunny day shot. I was going to go after these guys last weekend but a very high wind winter blast came through and decided to wait till this weekend. I'm looking forward to it! :toast:

Ron, to answer your question, yes, this was taken vertically. As you know the Mk4 has a built in vertical grip and I have been working with it a bit. I must say, however, this bird came in so fast that I almost dropped my rig getting it into the vertical position. To tell you the truth, I am not sure how I got as many sharp images out of this op as I did. Some times you just get a bit lucky and the 1/4000s SS did not hurt. I was kind of prepared as this eagle had been frequenting this area of the Indian River Lagoon the past week or so. Right place, right time, and a bit of luck.

I am totally impressed. You had to be laying on your back to get this! Still, 1/4000 covers a lot of sins.

Impressive windspan and I like the head-turn. Exposure and focus are spot-on.

Ron: nicely captured. Doing this vertically is quite a feat (even with 61% of the frame). Great intense stare from the eagle.

Ron, this is excellent. Great flight pose. Beautiful views of the underside of the wings, talons and face. Wonderful exposure control, the whites are under control and there is very nice detail in the darks. I'd be proud to have this in my files.

It doesn't get better than this for an eagle image. The body in horizontal position and wings out almost perpendicular to the ground is really some pose. Great techs as well.

Sharp detail and great vertical framing. The evening light adds that touch of shadow, rendering a 3D look & feel. Seems like this magnificent bird will fly right off my monitor
Well done! :toast:
